ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the association between family function and self-esteem in college students. Methods Totally 2560 college students were sampled. They were assessed with the self-compiled questionnaire on family information,Rosenberg' s self-esteem scale (SES) and family assessment device (FAD).Results The students from only-child family (30.32±4.19) scored higher on SES than students with siblings (29.54±3.97).The students with experience of grandparents raising (29.84±4.19) scored lower on SES than students raised by parents (30.29±4.13).Students from harmonious family and with monthly incoming above 10000 Yuan scored higher on SES than other groups. All the differences were statistically significant (P<0.01,P<0.05).There was significant correlation between SES and all of the dimensions of FAD (r=-0.260-0.379,P=0.000).Multiple regression showed that such dimensions of FAD as role, communication, behavior control, problem solving and general functioning,as well as social economic status of the family played important role on self-esteem of the students(β=0.039-0.169,P<0.01 orP<0.05).Conclusion Family factors have significant impact on self-esteem of the college students, especially family role and communication which are important positive predictors on self-esteem of college students.

ABSTRACT

Objective To assess the reliability and validity of the Chinese version of Prodromal Questionnaire-Brief Version (PQ-B).Methods By convenience sampling,122 college students and clinical psychology outpatients were assessed by PQ-B and Symptom Checklist 90 (SCL-90).Eighty among them were rctcstcd with the PQ-B after 2 weeks to test test-retest reliability.Correlation analysis, exploratory factor analysis were used for data processing. Results The internal consistency reliability of the Chinese version of PQ-B was 0.894,the correlation coefficient between each item and total score were higher than 0.347 (all P < 0.01),and when each of the total items deleted, the Cronbach' s Alpha of the whole score was lower than 0.894.Moreover,the test-retest reliability was 0.71 (P < 0.01) and the Guttman Split-Half Coefficient was 0.874.The exploratory factor analysis showed that KMO was 0.833,and 65.22% of the total variation could be explained by 6 factors, and the rotated pattern matrix value of item were 0.404-0.896 by direct oblimin. The total PQ-B score and the score of most of the extracted factors was significantly correlated with SCL-90(r=0.233-0.725,P<0.01),while factor 5 had low correlation with subscales of Obsessive-Compulsive,Interpersonal Sensitivity,Depression and Hostility in SCL-90(r=0.154-0.206,P>0.01).Conclusion The Chinese version of PQ-B suggested primarily good reliability and validity.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the effects of different marriage modes of parents on mental health of Mosuo middle school students. Methods Basic information questionnaire and symptom checklist-90 (SCL-90)were adopted to compare and to analyze 226 Mosuo students' mental health condition with regard to different marriage modes of parents. Results (1) In the comparison between the students from Monogamous Marriage families and the students from the Walking marriage families, the mean scores of somatization and depression were higher in the former group than in the latter group(0.73 ± 0.59 vs 0.58 ± 0.46,P< 0.05 ;0.87 ±0.65 vs 0.70 ±0.52,P< 0.05).(2)Among the students fromWalking marriage families, the mean scores of interpersonal sensitivity, depression, anxiety and phobic anxiety were higher in girls than those in boys (1.10 ± 0.76 vs 0.80 ±0.47,P<0.05;0.83 ±0.54 vs 0.58 ±0.48,P<0.05;0.99 ±0.71 vs 0.62 ±0.48,P<0.05;0.99 ±0.77 vs 0.55 ± 0.53,P< 0.05).(3) Among the students from Walking-Marriage families, some students had closer relationship with their fathers, and some were closer to maternal uncles, the mean scores of somatization, obsessivecompulsive factor and hostility were higher in the former sub-group than in the latter sub-group (0.69 ± 0.52 vs 0.43 ±0.34,P<0.05;1.22 ±0.46 vs 1.01 ±0.59,P<0.05;0.94±0.66 vs0.65 ±0.57,P<0.05).Conclusion The mental health status of Mosuo students are different regarding the marriage modes of their parents. In the Walking-Marriage families, the mental health of Mosuo students has relationship with their gender and the male whom the students are closer to.
